The internet today is revolutionizing every aspect of our lives. With only a computer and a stable internet connection, you can get real-time news about every corner of the earth. Health, travel, sex, politics, food, you name it Google has it. Pornography is no exception to this. And while there is nothing wrong with porn being so available to everyone interested, we can spot the difference between porn in the past and the porn of today and how it affects our lives.

How the Internet Changed Porn

Thanks to the internet, the adult film industry has repeatedly changed to match peoples’ preferences and gain popularity. The film-making techniques, the trends, and aesthetics all have evolved in order to bring this content closer to its audience. Performers have also changed largely in the way they present themselves. It seems they understood the game rules and are now more willing to play along moving from film-making to webcam sessions doing whatever their fan base pays for the most. After all, it is a 16 billion dollar industry and everyone wants a part of it.

Once the idea everyone had of porn were top-shelf magazines like Playboy, Hustler, and Penthouse, but with the rise of the internet, even the popular Playboy marked losses in revenue at one point which only shows the power of the internet. Now, through the internet, the scale of porn consumption is rocketing, marking all-time highs, changing what kind of content is produced as well.

The rise of new trends

Many porn directors and video producers see what is trending and try to make more of it in order to attract a larger viewing. While there are numerous porn genres available tailored to everyone’s likings, statistics have shown that by reviewing 300+ videos, interesting new trends have been spotted. For instance, 88% of them showed more violence than videos in the past.

This does not necessarily mean sadomasochistic activities, but simply includes things like spanking, choking, bondage, verbal “aggression”, gagging, and so on, things that weren’t included in the past. In these terms, you can see how the industry changes as soft porn isn’t as popular as hardcore porn is getting. And since the industry changes as people change their preferences and interests while losing interest for others, a question arises whether society has become numb to violence and more so, attracted to it. Of course, the porn industry does not play the main role in changing people’s liking, as movies (action movies particularly) show the same trend too.

New-age pornography

That being said, the porn over the years hasn’t changed only in types of content produced, but in ways of interaction too. Webcam sessions are one of the novelties of new-age porn-induced by the internet. It is now a standard practice for women and men within the porn industry to have their own accounts on major porn platforms performing regularly for their viewers. A few years back, this was not imaginable but now full-time performers are able to earn a living and support their family, pay for their studies and live and good life.

All in all, it is inevitable that with the rise of the internet, porn has become the new sex education for the younger population too. They discover what is available and what they like and and dislike pretty early in their lives. So, just like any other industry that is upgrading its products/services to boost revenue, it is without a question certain that the face of the porn industry will be further changing and evolving to satisfy every viewer out there.
