What to do after a career in porn
Making your career in the porn industry as an independent creator or studio actor can be a great career move, but like athletes it’s not a job for life.
Sure, there’s MILF porn and even GILF porn if you want to fuck on film into your 30s, 40s, and beyond. Not everyone wants to be getting banged or giving the banging on the regular for decades, so you need to have an exit strategy.
In the history of porn, there have been plenty of mega stars who have gone on to great things who can inspire independent creators for a future career path. If you’re looking for ideas for your life after porn we’ve got five future job options for you, including:
- Using your voice rather than your body
- Filming and funding porn
- Teaching about porn
- Making laws about porn
- Getting out of the game completely
So you can plan your next hustle.
Host a radio show
If making porn is like a sport, can you blame porn stars for moving into commentary when they leave the cameras behind? We’re not talking about doing a Joe Rogan over porn – renowned porn star Lisa Ann has built a successful side gig as a fantasy sports radio host.
She started her porn career back in 1994, quit in 1997, returned to the industry in 2006, and became a megastar when she took on the role of Serra Paylin. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, she was parodying the Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin and stared in Who’s Naylin’ Paylin?
As well as moving behind the cameras to direct in 2013, she also started hosting Lisa Ann does Fantasy for SiriusXM in 2014. Lisa had a passion for fantasy sports that’s she’s cashed in on.
Most recently, she’s been hosting Fantasy Dirt with Michael Fabiano and Lisa Ann on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio since April 2020.
Become a porn director
Lisa Ann followed many a porn star behind the camera when she began directing. Some of the best porn stars have taken their life after porn into directing and producing the content they know so well.
There are many, many porn stars who started directing, including:
- Kayden Kross
- Jewel De’Nyle
- Jenna Jameson
- Alexis Texas
- Dana Vespoli
That’s just the women!
Taking on the role of director whilst still performing in scenes too can be a great way to make the long-term transition.
Meanwhile, former porn stars like Randy West, Jilly Kelly, and Jules Jordan moved into production. They founded studios that put together the professional porn shoots you love so much.
Become a porn advocate
There are people who end up going against the porn industry after negative experiences, like Linda Lovelace after her rise to stardom in Deep Throat. On the other end of the spectrum, there are porn stars who fiercely advocate for the industry and make a job out of it.
Nina Hartley was a huge porn celeb in the 80s and 90s and even starred in spin-offs from the Debbie does… series that every porn-lover has to have seen.
Since her starring roles way back when, Nina became a full-throated advocate for the porn industry and the sexual liberation it offers. She’s given lectures at Ivy League schools including:
- Harvard
- Dartmouth
- Berkley
She still makes porn and sells it directly to her fans rather than using a studio anymore. Some of her content is about teaching couples about kinks and better sex in general, which is another handy side hustle when you made your money giving and receiving orgasms.
A political life after porn
Who would you trust more, a porn star or a politician?
At least a porn star is convincing when they need to fake it…
There’s been a long history of porn stars moving into politics, which is no surprise when the sex industry is constantly under unwarranted attack in the US. Along with the policing of women’s bodies, there are religious and moral zealots who’d rather you not have the chance to watch what you want.
This hostility towards porn – and the love of parody and humor in the industry has led people like Mary Carey to step into elections. She’s stood in multiple elections in California, even going up again Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 2003 gubernatorial recall race.
Outside of the LA porn bubble, famous Italian porn star Cicciolina was a government minister between 1987 and 1991 while still getting in front of the camera. She since went on to found an anti-establishment political party in Italy after her retirement.
Life after porn without porn
Plenty of people in the skin game stick reasonably close what they know once they step away from the lens. Even porn stars who are against porn in the end like to cash in on their sexy history.
There are some who downright move away from sex on camera, like Sandra Margot. She was a star in the 80s and when she left the game, she started working as a PI and later even wound up driving a school bus.
Tabitha Stevens’ life after porn took her to Utah with her husband where she now runs a fine arts photography gallery. Meanwhile, Georgina Spelvin, star of The Devil in Miss Jones, retired from porn with a healthy pension and took an office job.
What are the options for work and life after porn?
If you don’t want to go into MILF porn or just want to expand your horizons after years of sex on camera, there are plenty of options.
Independent creators can take some inspiration from the big names of the last few decades. You can use your skills honed over years to teach sex, advocate for the industry, show new creators how it’s done, or use the money you’ve saved to follow one of your other passions.
